Statement: Jacksonville Civic Council Supports Renewing the One-Mill for Teachers

The Jacksonville Civic Council urges passage of the County Referendum regarding the DCPS Ad Valorem Millage Extension by voting “Yes, for continuation.”

Since voters first approved the levy in 2022, Duval County Public Schools has used the funding to offer more competitive teacher salaries, helping to attract and retain qualified educators and fill classroom vacancies. During that time, the district has earned an “A” rating from the state for two consecutive years, and graduation rates have continued to rise. Failure to renew the levy would reduce teacher pay by an average of $8,500 per year, putting Duval at risk of losing talented educators to other districts.

A world-class city requires a world-class education system. Great schools give our children the opportunities they deserve and make Jacksonville a place where families want to live and thrive. A “Yes” vote is a yes for teachers and students.

Along with a “Yes” vote on the County Referendum on Schools, in line with our previous statement we urge a “No” vote on Constitutional Amendment No. 3 regarding the Increased Homestead Exemption.
